Thanks for checking out Northern Orchards, our local family run business!

We love selling apples in Ontario as each season brings us new opportunities and adventures. Fall to spring our team is sorting and grading apples from a variety of orchards. This is a busy season for us that brings a lot of excitement as fresh varieties are available every fall. During the summer months when apples in orchards all across Canada are growing and waiting to be picked we take the time to thoroughly clean and prep our facility for the new season to come. This allows our team to take a break, schedule any necessary training and set up any new equipment.

In the fall we often hire individuals to join our team. We offer a large range of opportunities from full time, seasonal full time, and occasionally part time positions.

If you are interested in joining our growing team we want to welcome you to apply at Northern Orchards. Click on apply here button and send us an email. We would be happy to meet you and discuss what positions are currently available.

Job Description

Apple Packing Team Member

We are looking for someone with a positive attitude and strong work ethic who enjoys working as part of a team.

The job involves sorting apples of different sizes and packing them into bushel boxes, bags, and/or cardboard trays. Once boxes are full, they can weigh approximately 35–45 lbs and are placed onto pallets for wrapping.

Hours

Our regular workday starts at 6:45 a.m. We stop for lunch before 11:00 a.m. and then continue packing apples throughout the afternoon. At approximately 3:00 p.m., we begin cleaning and finish the day around 3:30 p.m During our busy fall season, additional hours are often available for employees who are interested, but they are not required. These hours can be a great fit for someone who enjoys starting early, finishing in the afternoon, and still having plenty of time to enjoy their evenings.

What the Job Is Like

We work hard as a team and work together to complete our goals for the day. Our packing operation is a fast-paced environment, and the position requires:

  • Standing for extended periods of time

  • Repetitive sorting and packing of apples

  • Following food-safety and workplace-safety procedures

Training is provided, including food-safety training twice each year to ensure our employees understand and follow the policies and procedures outlined by CanadaGAP. We are proud that our team recently finished our annual audit with an excellent score. Safety is also very important to us. We have maintained a fantastic workplace safety record over the years and take pride in creating a safe and positive working environment for our team.

Seasonal Work

Our work is seasonal, which means hours are typically reduced during the summer months. Many of our staff have enjoyed using the slower summer season to spend more time with family and enjoy the outdoors after a busy fall and winter.
